This popper rocks - it works flawlessly.
I hadn't thought about the aluminum aspect. happy to see the FDA has no aluminum issues. I must say the brief contact and oil coating put my mind at rest anyway. I think something like spaghetti sauce cooked in aluminum is a bad idea - acidic liquid with long exposure -- but popcorn is fast, has a moisture-proof barrier, etc. PS I have wiped down my Whirley Pop, which has a red coating, and did not find any residue. PPS I am 55 and ate food cooked in aluminum for 20 years as a kid & I am healthy as an ox, so go figure...

I have used this Wabash Farms Whirley Pop for five years, and have absolutely loved it. I never cared for popcorn before using this product to prepare it, and now I eat popcorn several times a week!

I have to agree with Jerry S that this is a fantastic popper, but I also do have my worries about the fact that the body is aluminum. So, while this is the best way to enjoy quick theatre style popcorn that should be weighed against the fact that the whirly pop is aluminum. I wish that the makers would come out with a stainless version or shield the inside of this. Until that point, I am donating my whirly pop.

Bought it, used it for at least a year, loved it - it makes great popcorn. But I became concerned by how easily I could "darken" a paper towel just by wiping out the inside of the aluminum cooker. Upon closer inspection I concluded such darkening came: not from the light oil - nor from the popcorn - but rather from the aluminum internal skin of the cooker, as it easily shed grey coloring onto the paper towel. (The cooker is not coated - rather, it's up to you to season it with oil.) "So, how much aluminum does one ingest with a single batch? This looks like a health risk" I said - and I stopped using it. Makes me p.o'd: why couldn't the manufacturer stamp out this elegant design using safer stainless steel, instead of soft aluminum?

I received a Whirley Pop as a gift about 7 years ago, and instantly fell in love with it. I've given Whirley Pops as gifts several times since then. We have a serious popcorn addiction in our house! The popcorn tastes so much better than an air popper or microwave popcorn, and is just as fast (if not faster) to prepare. The Whirley Pop is lightweight, and easy to clean. On top of the previous negative reviews I want to add that many of the kernels fly out of the popper unpopped. They are extremely hot and bounce of the bottom of the bowl right into my face at a great speed. Don't try it with the children around. Pop corn tastes dry and has no flavor. It's also not very stable and tips over easily. (Makes good air heater though).

This product was such a disappointment. It didn't have enought power to blow a feather out of the machine. Most to all of the kernals burned and the popcorn that did pop tasted terrible. I would not reccomend this product to anyone!

When my old air popcorn popper died, my husband surprised me with the Toastmaster Air Popper. What a disappointment! It seems that the air pressure is not strong enough to push the popcorn over into your bowl, which leaves you with burnt popcorn and unpopped corn in the chamber.
